Flash Image GalleryThe FIG is a gallery application that can be used by anyone to display multiple galleries of photos, artwork, or other pictures with descriptions. It requires no server-side language and will run on any web host. It is idealy suited for artists with online galleries, but can be used by anyone. Seeing is believing, so check out the demo. UPDATES October 16th, 2005 FIG Admin has a slightly new version - FIG Admin 1.1. Zygfryed cleaned up some of my sloppy PHP code to make it less error prone. Thanks Zyg. To update just download the new version and replace the admin folder with the new one. October 15th, 2005 Oops. In the FIG Admin download I forgot to empty out the menu.xml file. So anyone that downloaded it in the last day, just delete the "my gallery" entry in it and it should work from there. If you try to upload or edit pictures to the "my gallery" gallery it will error because no pics.xml file exists for that gallery. This has been taken out in the current download. Thanks neo for the heads up on the email. Did you have to pick "neo" as your nickname? Whatever. October 14th, 2005 Finished up FIG Admin 1.0. It provides a web interface to manage your galleries and pictures. Available in the download section. Also added another setting to FIG - thumbbgcolor. It changes the background color of the thumbnails. I also implemented a feature which may come in useful later, but haven't really documented it anywhere. FIG can accept a flash var called "menu" which sets the xml file to load for the list of galleries e.g. menu=menu.xml or menu=other_menu.xml. I'm currently just using this flash var on a side project of my own. This allows you to use one FIG installation to display multiple sets of galleries or you can create an individual menu.xml file for each gallery and display them all separately. I just use PHP to pass a GET variable that switches the xml file. If you don't know anything about this, don't worry about it. It's something I might work on for the future. August 30th, 2005 I've begun working on a PHP backend for FIG. It will make administration and updating FIG really easy as long as it's on a server that allows PHP. This whole thing is a side project so it may be a little while. Maybe a month or so. If you want to know when its done, sign up for the newsletter in the download section. August 20th, 2005 New version 1.15 of FIG.
To upgrade from an old version all you have to do is download the new gallery.swf file and replace it and add the splash attribute to your settings.xml. Done. Trying to keep it simple. January 8th, 2004 The first update in a long time and it has nothing to do with me. Matthias Mailander has made a Delphi program called Gallery Maker that will automatically create the xml files and thumbnails for FIG to work. It really is a cool program and I was completely stunned when Matthias sent it to me in an email. Anyone currently using FIG may find this program to be exactly what they needed to quickly make updates as well as quickly get going. Great job Matthias. The program is now included in the FIG download or you can download Matthias Gallery Creator from his site. There are also more details there. January 29, 2004 A few people are saying their images are not showing up. Go resave those images as unoptimized, unprogressive jpegs. If you have photoshop, here is a screenshot with how it is done. January 27, 2004 OK, OK, I give. I will put up a new version this weekend without the ad area at the bottom. Lets just say that there have been a "few" requests for its removal. January 20, 2004 Small bug fixed where numbers could not be used in navigation names. Thanks alextwyx for the heads up. January 18, 2004 I have heard your requests and there is a new FIG available for download. It's version 1.1 for lack of a better name.
