Welcome to Scarborough's most exciting website.
The aim is to help you find out all there is to know about the town. You might be thinking of moving here, looking for a job, and what the local schools are like for your children.
As this is Scarborough's Renaissance web site you might also be studying the subject, or one of our Town Team members looking for an update.
We have links to all sorts of other sites, but as we are all about change, if you have ideas or comments we welcome them, so please hit the feedback section.
Scarborough wins the Enterprising Britain Award
In the award ceremony at 11 Downing Street on 16 Oct 08 it was announced that Scarborough had beaten competition from Nottingham, Plymouth, Southampton, Luton, Wandsworth and Scotland to win the national title.
The town was already the regional winner of the Yorkshire and Humberside area and now will go on to represent Great Britain at the European Enterprise Awards.
Enterprising Britain is a nationwide competition to find the most enterprising place in the UK - a location where enterprise has helped transform a community and led to improved economic prospects for the area.
It is now in its fourth year and is a key part of the Government’s drive to increase rates of entrepreneurial activity in the UK. Make Your Mark have responsibility for running the competition, on behalf of the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR), by working in close partnership with the Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) and the Devolved Administrations of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The competition is also used to identify the UK entries to the European Enterprise Awards.

Mere & Oliver's Mount Country Park Proposals
Following public consultations and investigations held in 2008 the complete masterplan and feasibility study for this area of Scarborough is now available for download.
This is the first step in what will inevitably be a medium to long-term project. The masterplan forms the platform from which the scheme can be progressed and funding and development partners can be engaged. A report to the council's Cabinet will be prepared in early spring to outline steps to drive the project forward and obtain authority to start the work needed to secure investment to deliver the scheme.
The plan aims to provide a mix of natural space, woodland meadows, walks, cycle trails and bridleways, a visitor centre, water sports such as angling and rowing and identifies areas for commercial type development such as the possible creation of an extreme sports centre, hotel and eco lodges. The development will also meet the aspiration of providing a green corridor from the proposed Middle Deepdale development into the town.
